I like this article. I am going to make a point to start calling JBSVR by their thai name, Japanese lionhead.......

In Thailand, ranchu refers to TVR only and the term is used with fish whose shape conforms to a strict or exact standard (same as Japan). As Paul's article suggests, everything else is considered a lionhead variant. Side-view ranchu is the term mostly used in the west (and might have been popularized by the Chinese).

Yes, it was popularized here because most "ranchu" coming in the US were Chinese bred. These fish were developed by breeding the tail tuck into the lionhead strains and shortening the body. But these fish were diffenately not bred for TVR standards, but for the aquarium trade....
