I'm setting up a planted GF tank by gradually adding live plants into the tank.

Can I use a driftwood for Moss in the tank? I'm afraid the driftwood will alter the PH to lower end.

32fish, if you're worried about the tannins you have two options: buy lake driftwood (i bought a beautiful piece on ebay from a seller who collects it from lake michigan) that won't release any tannins, or use regular wood and soak it for a few weeks in a bucket or trash can, changing water frequently to remove as many tannins as possible before you put it in your tank. you will still have to continue the water changes to reduce the tannins after its in the tank but it's your best shot.
my lake driftwood released exactly zero tannins and hasn't affected my water chemistry at all.
best of luck.

How can I tell if the driftwood is from the lake? I'm assuming if the wood doesn't produce tannins while in the water, then it is a lake driftwood, correct?

I have two pieces of large driftwood in my goldfish tank - not sure what kind of wood but it's dark in color. It's been in there for a bit over a year and no problems with my fish. I ordered from an online supplier and the directsions said to soak the wood in clear water for at least 24, then drain and soak in more clean water for 12 hours to remove any tannins.

I have java fern and java moss attached to mine and it does very well.

Do you add liquid ferterlizer in the tank? How much light do you have on the tank?

NO!!!!!!!!
if you are buying driftwood with some sort of sealant, BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!
the fish can eat the sealant and die
i have this from a good source
