There is a new page, "How to Select SVR?". What do you think? Thanks.

Interesting, it pretty much mirrors the old AGA ranchu standard, before the changes to mirror the Japanese(TVR) standard this year.

(Length) Head to Body + Tail ratio should be 1:3

'Criterion' is singular. 'Criteria' is plural. 'Criterias' ain't nothin'.

Good so far....what about the tail particulars? There has to be more to a tail than 45degre angle.
Very helpful.

Here is my issue. I would like to see a much more detailed ideal(as well as a name change, ranchu should refer to TVR only) standard. You see now the "japanese bloodline SVR" which is very similar the TVR except the tail, which is more upright and pinched. I get these fish now in my TVR breedings, as the tail is the hardest trait to get right. But you also see the chinese ranchu, which is very shorter and deeper bodied, with a high back arch. The fish wobble as they swim, and are much different then the Japanese ranchu(TVR) as swimming is so important in these fish. So which direction is the ideal? Thats the question. Of course I don't breed SVR, but would like to see continuity regardless. Are they just commerical grade ranchu, or a different breed of goldfish, with detailed ideals? This is the Question SVR breeders must decide.......

Dan,
I guess the name of Side View Ranchu is pretty set across the world and won't be able to change it easily. It's not just a commercial grade ranchu since SVR became a standard in every part of the world except Japan. As far as I know, Aquarama and Shows in US have only SVR competition. It would be very difficult to recognize as different breed.
In the mean time, I agree that we need detail standard for Top View Ranchu as well. We have a lot of TVR expert on our site, why don't we produce a standard. I know it is not an easy task. Since I am not expert, I won't be able to produce any standard. All I can help is organize information and put on the site.
Thanks, :coffee:

AGA (american goldfish association) now has a standard for top view ranchu. A great copy of the TVR standard can be found on the Top view ranchu disscussion forum on gold raffle forum ..... www.rafflesgold.com . It is pinned at the top....

Fred,
I understand that currently, In the US or in Singapore only showing SVR. In Thailand, There are 2 separate category; JBSVR and Lionchu.
In the US, i believe maybe next year or so. The AGA might add more category on these type of GF. Coz i think it'll be really difficult work for the judge to complete TVR, JBSVR, Lionchu, and Lionhead in the same category.

The AGA now has separate divisions for TVR and SVR. But right now that means JBSVR and Chinese ranchu/lionchu competing againist each other. That is difficult........

Let's keep TVR a side since this topic is for SVR.
Chinese SVR(lionchu) VS JBSVR is a new challence for us. JBSVR is pretty new concept to us until Paul introduced to us last year. They look beautiful TVR cull to me though. Some of them look really nice from the top except the tail part.
But if we want to set standard, we can set standard for JBSVR. I haven't seen this terminology on any site yet thought (I can only read English). just my two cents. :)

Thats pretty much my assessment. But real question is where do we go from here? Are they going to take these JBSVR and breed them for shorter bodies/higher back arch, or keep the more TVR look? It is very interesting..

I guess it will become personal preference and starting to have your own line.

Second though, I guess we should keep JBSVR in their original shape (ie long body) as a standard.

Thats the main issue. But the deeper shorter body seems to be what alot of breeders want. Look at the Aquarama winners....

Look at the latest showgrade SVR that Paul imported (the big ones), those are my ideal (JB)SVRs. Round, plump body, smooth curvy back, and chunky wen.
