I was just wondering what you all prefer; a wen covering the fish's eyes or not? If this is too controversial, then please delete it. I don't want anyone's feelings to get hurt over other's opinions.

I prefer a small, tight wen....I like to see the eyes and feel a little sorry for a fish that can't see or swim due to a heavy wen. That is only my opinion, of course.

I agree, Shannon. To me, a wen covering the eyes is the equivalent to us having hair in our eyes and not being able to get it out. Like you said, that is just my opinion, though.

It depends on the breed. It is a problem on Oranda and lionheads, and some Chinese Ranchu. Good top view ranchu lines it is a rare problem, due to specific structure of the wen placement. Regardless, it is never a good thing for a fish not to be able to see........

When the wen covers the eyes it is like the fish prematurely aged. It does not kill it outright, but it becomes less fit and more susceptible to problems. Having heavy eyebrows (wen that grows out from above and partially covers eyes) does not seem to be detrimental.

For buffalo head SVRs, I think, having cheek wen slightly covering the bottom margin of the eyes (between 6 to 8 o'clock) is preferred.

Not to get OT on my own topic, but you said "Buffalo SVR's". Is there a pic of those anywhere in here? You just described my SVR that I got from Steve PERFECTLY!!! OMG! His head looks like the front end of a mack truck! I have been looking at pics of regular SVR's, but have not seen anything like my Braveheart. Steve, I am going to have to send you a pic of him; he is amazing!:worship:

These are Paul's show grade SVRs. Check out the well-formed wen (covering the bottom part of the eye between 4-6 or 6-8 o'clock, depending on the side you're looking at). The left piece is really spectacular.

Thanks so much for the pics, but no-those don't look like my SVR. As a matter of fact, BraveHeart has no wen at all. He has the chubby cheeks, but that is it. His head reminds me of a tiger shark or a bull shark. I have to try and fish him out of the pond a take a decent pic of him.
