I have a 150g stock tank that I am using as an outdoor pond right now. It contains 5 fancy GF. I am not a breeder at all and do not wish to be one as I am scared to even try it. However, my demekin dropped eggs in the pond a while back and now there are fry in there of various sizes. The biggest is about half an inch. I feed my fish various foods such as pellets, home made gel food, peas, veggis, etc. There is also lots of algae in the tank, as well. Can the fry survive on this type of food? I don't have any fry food on hand. I'm basically letting Mother Nature handle this and if the fry survive, then I will not complain one bit, but as I said before, I have NO experience in breeding! LOL! I leave that to Steve!:exact:

They will find food. I had my mitas spawn in my 1000 gal ranchu pond last fall. I did not discover them till cleaning. They were already over a inch. I ended up getting one really nice one from the ordeal. If your stock tank is well planted, you should be ok......

Thanks, Dan! I do have floating plants in the pond, but I really need to get more, especially since it is getting hot here now. I, too, noticed the fry when I was cleaning the tank. I'm not complaining about them, as I love my fish and would actually like to have a baby or two from them, but I am not deliberately trying to breed them. The father is either my fantail or my ranchu that I got from Steve last year. However, I noticed that the biggest fry I saw is a single-tail. All of my fish are double-tail, but I was told by a friend of mine that some single-tail fry can be born from double-tail parents. I was also told that these fry are normally culled. I didn't cull mine; just left it alone.
