I am very distressed. I have a lovely spawn of almost two month old calico veiltail fry--suddenly dying off one by one. These fish are almost two months old and have been given the very BEST of care. I tested water parameters today; all is fine. The fish are not eating well, clustering in one corner of the aquarium and when one dies--it starts out listing to the side and then loses strength and free floats in the tank then dies. These fish have been raised on live baby brine shrimp homemade gel food and microworms. then have been weaned onto aqueon and Deli Flakes along with the homemade gel food.
Nothing dramatic has changed for these fish. I am always careful to introduce new food slowly. I have well water and, again, tests show that all parameters are fine. Gills are NOT heaving, and these are homebred fish so doubt it is flukes.
These are GORGEOUS fry, and I have lost the ones that seem to be the most colorful calicos. I am NOT of the mind to throw meds at baby goldfish. I have installed a UV unit today. Any good advice out there?? :worship:

How large are the fry? Do you have a microscope? If so, put a fry into a shallow glass dish in just enough water and check it over. Are they clustering at the surface? Gasping for air?
I've seen flukes in fry, killing them at about that age. Being homebred doesn't protect them from flukes. The parents may be able to live with some flukes so you won't notice them - but the fry can't cope.
By the way, your posts should be moved to their own thread.

The fry are hanging at the surfaçe, yes. I am thinking maybe it is flukes, even though these are homebred fish. I will order some Prazi-Pro. I appreciate your response.

The fry are about 1/2 inch long

I'm pretty sure it's flukes then. At that age and size, the flukes will overrun and kill them. The fry will produce a lot of slime from their gills and mouths, visible under the microscope, and the fry will just die from that.
They need Prazie as soon as possible. Hope it can still help them.
