I've seen a number of discussions regarding cold and the pond with fancies.
I have the opposite dilemma.
I am in the deep southern US and contemplating an outdoor stock tank type set-up.
In the summertime, what would be the maximum safe water temp before measures would need to be taken to cool the water?
Also, in addition to shade, does anyone have suggestions for cooling smaller (150-200gals) outdoor stock tanks other than a commercial chiller unit?

Dig the tub into the ground, Shade and water changes.

Chillers are very expensive to buy, run and maintain. But I think your fear is unfounded. People all across the South keep goldfish outside in various sorts of tubs. Shade and plenty of aeration is all you need.

black stock tanks with green water overheat easily. Use floating plants and aeration.

Max safe water temperature would be about 85. Absolute max. And not for extended periods! Max safe average temp would be about 75-80.
I agree with the above posters. Shade, aeration, lots of water turnover and putting the pond in the ground are your best bets.

small trickle tower will help filtration as well as help cool the water through evaporation

Hi Marlin08!!! Good to see you again, Hon! I am so glad you asked this question, as I, too, am having this problem with my stock tank. I am trying to figure out ways to cool it off w/out putting it in the ground.
