Cool, I just saw a report on PBS that scientists are working on making Ultraviolet LED lights (Light emitting diode) for the purpose of sanitizing drinking water worldwide. No doubt this technology should make it into aquariums in the future, and be a heck of alot cheaper and cleaner than the current bulbs. Go science!!!

As long as they can put enough of them to keep the intensity up it would be a tremendous step foward for our hobby. longer lasting units lower energy. My guess is that when the led's go the unit would be disposable.

whoa. Nice

Some questions though.

Does this mean that indoor tanks will now benefit from UV light thus substituting sunlight which would result to brilliant colors?

Actually I have a UV light that i never used. Someone gave it to me. Water gets pumped into it and treat the water that passes into the UV chamber and gets treated.

The UV does not shine directly into the tank. Does this give the same effect?
