All,

I started the UV and the pumps and bead filter yesterday and already the green water is changing. It went for peas soup, a clearer pond with a tinge of brown. I am also seeing some foam at the base of the water fall, that appears to be UVed algal foam. Any thoughts on timing for a partial water change. Pond video below:

Nice looking pond, I really like the waterfall!

This isn't related to your question but are you going to have some kind of cover from the sun since you are killing off the algae with the UV?

Nice looking pond. I like the raised stone on one side and the wide falls on the other.
It appears that you have alot of DOCs (disolved organic compounds) in the pond. You may want to investigate putting in a foam fractionator. We have had the same problem with one of our ponds and got alot of foam out with a fractionator. We are about to redo the pond so I havent done much more to improve the makeshift FF that I threw together last summer.

Gary,

nice pond!:yess:

The green algae reduce ammonia and nitrates.
If you kill these algae by UV, they stick together and now you can filter them.
But: by the remaining nutrients in the future the long algae will strongly grow if there are not a lot of water plants.
