I am wondering if anyone else uses Purigen in their filters?
I use it and I like it, but can never seem to get it really white after I recharge it. Am I letting it get too dirty? Anyone else have this issue?:confuse1:

I have not used Purigen and would also like some information on this product. I was considering using it.

I've never used it myself either, but lots of people at MFK swear by it, so it seems to have good acceptance in the large fish keeper community. Do you notice that the "recharged" purigen has less effectiveness than it does out of the box?

I can't tell if it's less effective, but it never seems to look as white. I keep to packs in each of my filters. My 100 gallon tank has 6 in it. I do think it helps clarity.

Have you tried to contact anyone at Seachem?

I use it in my sw reef. I just toss it and buy a new one.

I checked Seachem and the instructions say:
Regeneration: Soak in a 1:1 bleach:water solution for 24 hours in a non-metalic container in a well ventilated area and away from children. Rinse well, then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 2 tablespoons of ChlorGuard™, Prime®, or equivalent dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well. Original color and full activity should now be restored and Purigen® is ready for reuse. Caution: some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen® and render regeneration difficult. Do not reuse if odor of chlorine is detectable. In case of doubt, soak beads in small quantity of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.

I hope that helps out a bit, it sounds like it should return to the original color.

i've used it and tried to regenerate it using the instructions, and i too have never got it back 100% but i'm not sure if its suppose to. it does lighten some and i reuse it but after the first go, it doesnt do as well which is a shame because it expensive.

i think it helps with clarity too and like others, now i put it in my eheim and when i clean the filter, i just toss it and use a new bag.

ive also had success using it in my emperor 400s.
