This is a special treat for all you fanatic Goldfish fanciers (like myself).
The following images are from October 1924 and are color plates drawn by Hashime Murayama.

I scanned them (squishing the magazine only as much as I dared) roughly cropped them and here they are as a part of Goldfish History.
These images are too special to be hidden away I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. (Got my copy on Ebay)
As far as I can tell they are no longer in copyright and if they are I say "fair use" clause as this in non profit.
Course if I'm wrong, I'll take them down.

The article is called "Goldfish and Their Cultivation in America" But it also has pictures from Japan as well. Definately worth tracking this issue down and if you do let me know. There are 4 more pics I'll post them as "part 2"

I would have posted them as one thread, but there is a limit of 4 pics per thread.

Thanks,

It has been years since I looked at these, they are so very cool. Interesting to see how fish have changed shape and confirmation.

I'm not sure if the fish have changed confirmation since then. From some of the reading I've done it sounds like some artists of goldfish tended to draw there ideal instead of What the fish actually looked like. But that was more the ancient Chineese who did that. None the less they are fantastic drawings.

My only criticism of the drawing is that the Veiltails are not long enough!:exact:

These are my favorite photos from that article. My scanner is junk so the resolution is sort of funky, but you get the idea.

So I'm not the only with this magazine. Do You also have the one from 1905 and 1973?. I have the one from 1973 but can't justify spending 50 plus on ebay for a copy of the one from 1905.

Like you, I have the '73 article but not the '09. If you want to buy it and scan a copy for me I'll pay for half.
