For the last 10 Years i've used Danichi koi pellets, premium, small and floating.
I'm using 15 to 20 lbs of food per year and trying to keep my cost down to $10.00 per pound.
I'm not cooking for nobody.
I do feed duckweek, i have it growing in my dyi filter system.
I also believe goldfish crush their food before swallowing and the digestion starts in the mouth. But will not argue the point.

A lot of people is going against floating food though. Don't you get any SBD issue? well 10 years mean you do not have that issue.

What is your feeding schedule and amount? Thanks.

I don't feed my fish. I do feed the filters, no set time or number of times or amount. 500 gal pond currently 23 fish various sizes over feed and over filtered, also to much current have couple pieces of driftwood in there so they can get out of the current. If they get tired.

Danichi is a great food. I don't use it as often as I'd like.

I always use floating food including duck weed but only when it's growing out side.

Duck weed is a perfect goldfish food.

Saki-Hikari is the best commercially produced goldfish pellet in my opinion. It is a very small sinking pellet, suitable for fish of 3cms and over, and produced with and without colour enhancer. Am not sure whether or not this is available in the States, didn't seem to be in 2007, although strangely Saki-Hikari koi food was. My fish are fed on those pellets and frozen bloodworm and nothing else.

I emailed Hakari in 2007 about making a Sari-Hakari pellet for Goldfish at their site in US. I did get a reply that they were considering it. I just checked and they're making a color enchancing forumla.
Do you rinse your frozen bloodworms before feeding?

I also feed frozen bloodworms. I have tried both San Francisco Bay brand and the Hikari brand. I thaw the cubes in a little aquarium water before feeding. I prefer the Hikari brand because the water that I thawed the worms in do not have the red tinge that the San Francisco Bay brand has, indicating that the SF brand worms lose integrity in the freezing process. I use to just dump the thawed worms in the tank and let the fish chase them all over. This got too messy and now I put them in a worm feeder and this is working much better.

For frozen bloodworms, I tried to pinch small cube that can fit for one bite. and give them one cube per fish. If they finished less than 2 minutes, I give them another round.

I'm close to having Saki! I'm going to start with the smaller sized packets but once my supply is hooked up I'll hopefully have access to the full line.

I believe Paul has it in stock already.

Glad to here that Saki-Hikari will be available in the States shortly. I feed frozen bloodworm from pie dishes but as I feed it in quantity I don't mess about with it. I do not defrost it first. Frozen bloodworm is placed in a perforated metal pencil holder which is then inverted on to the pie dish. Thaws quickly, albeit speed of thawing obviously depends on temperature of the water. I use Ruto frozen bloodworm (from Holland) and have just taken delivery of 90 kilos of it - guess my goldies are in for a good Christmas!

I guess i kind of ducked the question. Hate to admit it but i feed 6 to 12 time daily, small handful each time. But i'm running two big bio filters and another rio 3100 attached to a aqua clear power head attachment as a prefilter and this points up at 45 degree angle towards the surface. All 3 have one of these as prefilter and are cleaned twice daily. I figure i'm removing about have the waste daily.

Hi Gary

I've only seen it in the small package. I suspect it is very similar to the saki koi which comes in 4 pound packs. That might be the way to go for larger quantities.

I'm working with a wholesaler right now, I hope to have a few answers after the new year.

I really like the Saki Koi, but it floats generally and is too large for most Goldfish. Been playing with the food from Pretty Bird for gOldfish and also the Cichlid version. It is nto quite the same as what tge Sakii might give me

I used Danish fishfood for years:

http://www.biomar.dk/?sc_lang=en there are very good articles about extruded fishfood on the Biomar website

This fish is 3 month old and 9 cm, fed with "Biomar Ecostart 17"
Maybe you can finde similar extruded commercial food in North Amerika! As a rule, it is very cheep.

Hi Guenther

Can you provide a link to that food? I looked on the site and could not find an ingredients list.

If anyone is interested I have highly pigmented fry food that will provide what I suspect are similar results to the "Biomar Ecostart 17". It does wonderful things for color and growth.

Hi David

I used Ecostart 17 and Bio-Optimal Start in different sizes. For example here is the table for trout, it's the same food also for other fish like carp:

You can klick on the dots to see food details.

I'm not having a good experience with Dainichi.

For the past 10 months, I have been using the 3mm version of the ultima and color supreme. In my experience, it's very messy, my sponge filters are coated in muck that I never had when I used Hikari Lionhead or Saki and I don't know if the food was any better than Hikari. Also, poos were extremely long, no matter how little or how much I fed; on the other hand, no need to feed peas.

I'm not against the food; it's just not working with my current setup. If I were to try the food again, I think I would go with the ultima baby 1mm version.

Gary

I am getting in Saki Growth (Green Package) 1kg or 2.2lbs. It's more affordable than 7oz or 200g package. If you still interesting, please contact me soon. They're coming in very soon and if you need large order, price will be cheaper since we can buy whole case. Also, i will need to order extra just for you. Currently, im getting about 2 cases which 6 bags of 1kg in a case.

Paul

P.S. E-mail me to paul@xxxxxxxxxxxx.com

I'll take one 1kg green saki. Not too excited about the purple bag now because I'm seeing color smear on some of my fish.
