Does anyone know about this food, and if so, do you highly recommend it?

I am not sure.

One thing for sure is Fishguy2727 has a lot of experience on it.

oh yeah!
I give mine peas (of coarse!) and frozen blood worms and brine shrimp for treats. I haven't made gel in awhile, but I may do it soon.

I was wondering if anyone else was feeding this food besides Fishguy2727. I know he swears by it.

I go by internationally recommeded brand Hikari, pea(gel food) and bloodworm.

I have used it.

It does have a lot of color enhancer and I think that is why people like it so much. It will give your whites a yellowish tint. I noticed that happening especially in the head. The reds were very red but also kinda indistinct or oversaturated. If I remember correctly, it is a very hard pellet and kinda big and expands in water even bigger so care should be taken to avoid SBD or impaction.

Thanks a lot everyone. I will stick with Hikari, Pro-gold and veggies. I stop feeding gel food a long time ago because it made my water cloudy. However, I will splurge occasionally and buy fresh shrimp for them.

Jed: how do you feed fresh shrimp?

I tried it but it made my big ranchu floaty. Hikari Lionhead tends to do the same thing. Lately I've been feeding gel food and leaving a little piece of broccoli in there on a veggie clip. Maybe 2x a week I'll feed a pellet food. I haven't tried it in my gel food yet.

I just rinse it and cut into small pieces and let them have at it.

Ajno, are you referring to new life spectrum or shrimp?

I like a product called aquadyane. It has the texture of a corn flake. Ken from dandyorandas.com sells it and has a special blend for goldfish. My fish never have bouancy problems from this product. I also supplement with hikari lionhead and vegetables

Both actually

It has been the only thing all my current goldfish have gotten (and all my fish for the past three years). I have not had any issues with whites yellowing out. It barely expands and even then is VERY soft, so I can't see expanding internally being a real issue at all.

The only Hikari food I would feed to fancies is the Lionhead, which is actually more expensive and I wouldn't trust it exclusively.

The color enhancers are natural, so may take months to take full effect. But it doesn't include any artificial colors the way so many others do (and may effect coloration).

How long did you try it? Was it on fancy goldfish?

I have been using the 0.35 mm sinking for cichlids on my goldfish with great success, great food for fish as they leave the brine shrimp stage. Doesn't cloud water and they like it. I also use pretty bird for cichlids on my goldfish along with an assortment of frozen stuff ( 5 lbs./week) and gell food, resipe reprint available.

I used it for about 9 months in indoor setups, both clear water and green water setup on 4 pearlscales and 2 ranchu.

I should have written my post differently so I don't sound like some expert because I only speak from personal experience and I didn't keep records plus, I don't have pictures to support my claims. If someone did a side by side test of NLS vs Hikari Lionhead or Progold, I would be the first to use the :worship: .

I use it in rotation with the others I use. My fish all like it but I can't use it with Snow Dancer (white Telescope) as it causes her to go belly up at the surface for the rest of the day as does ProGold.

Since discovering New Life Spectrum, I've tried it out on my Tiger Barbs and two Bettas first (only had two Bettas then). The blues and scarlet in my bettas flourished significantly, and my fish look incredible. The "silver" and black in my tiger barbs are sharper, even shining like polished steel. They are also visibly more energetic than before.

I'm using it for all my fish today. After using this food with my two first ranchus, Blondie and Sir Winston, they've been like little torpedoes speeding through my 100 gallon aquarium!

Who says ranchus are "sluggish" and can't swim? My two 2" pearlscales ("Buttons" and "Paddy") zip through the large aquarium all day as well.

Since my 100 gallon tank houses a myriad of sizes of exotic goldies, I mix the 3mm goldfish pellet with Thera-A 1mm pellets so everyone gets enough food, and although people write that goldies and plants don't mix, this is not the case with mine.

I only have java fern and java moss on logs in the aquarium, but since being fed exclusively on New Life Spectrum, my goldies leave the moss (one of their favorites) alone, and the moss HAD grown back - until Niko and Pandy were added, that is.

I've just recently added the black ranchu (Niko) and the red-faced Butterfly Moor (Pandy), and one red telescope (Albie) to the bunch, and they immediately went for my moss! :waiting:

Anyway, I've rearranged the logs with moss to make it harder for them to attack the regrown moss and to wait it out until they don't go for it anymore. I guess because NLS has everything they need, they don't feel the need to eat live plants - although they LOVE peas still (feed it once a week as snack).

I have one 5" black moor in quarantine. I bought him from PetsMart two weeks ago with a case of saprolegnia fungus. I guess that's why he only cost me $10 bucks.

He's being treated with a Medicated Wonder Shell I get at Americanaquariumproducts.com since I can't find it at my LFS which only sells the regular Wonder Shells. These shells are just wonderful.

The fungus (the hairy parts) began dropping off within 24hrs and one-and-a-half-weeks later, the four spots on his body have healed except for the largest (still needs to be completely black before I release him from quarantine).

He (Juutje - Dutch for $10 bucks) was the ONLY fish that didn't take to NLS immediately (kept spitting it out), but after three days, he finally gobbles it up like the others. Since feeding them NLS exclusively, all my black moors have gotten a deeper, velvety black color - even the 1" one (Dudley-do-little who really does A LOT).

Like another member here, I swear by New Life Spectrum for ALL my fish. The results just can't be denied, imo.

Just to be clear, my 100 gallon has three large filters: 1 Rena xp3 for up to 165 gallons, 1 Hydro Sponge Pond filter with powerhead for up to 125 gallons, and 1 Hydro Sponge Pond filter air-pump driven (for extra surface turbulence as well) up to 125 gallons.
