Please comment on my red/white top view ranchu.

In my possession for one year now. My one and only ranchu. Keeping him indoor in a 40 gallon green water tub. fed with progold and saki-Hikari.

These pictures were from today. I'm going to post a couple videos soon too.

Thanks!
Thomas

a couple more picture from 1/03/09

I included these because it might be easier to see the fish in the better light and blue container.

IMHO, although colour is not an important feature for a TVR, your ranchu has a bright red colour contrasting with the white. Peduncle must be thicker and shorter. Tail does not spread wide; front edges of tail should be more perpendicular to body or peduncle. Bracelet looks fine. Lacks headgrowth and jowls. Distance between mouth and eyes is too short. My 2 cents!

For the most part, I agree with Gerard. While it would be nice to see a more perpendicular spread to the tail, it is important to maintain a softness and fluidity to the tail movement. Some ranchu have stiff "airplane" like tails that do not move well when the fish swims. This is a decent fish, but if I had to critique it, I would say it should have a longer head, and the body should be more rectangular. I think a longer body with a thicker, stronger peduncle would be an improvement. The scales are neatly arranged, but perhaps they are slightly large. Smaller scales are better.

Cheers,

Rob

I also agree with the others. I a more distance between the eye and the mouth, as well as better funtan development, would give the head a better rectanglar shape. The tail looks too soft, IMO. Still a decent fish. Good job.

the edges of the tail do curl under and I'm not sure if that is from my keeping but I think it was.
