So i had a idea today and i was wondering if couldnt you use an inflatable swimming pools for outdoor setups?? I mean most of the nicer ones come with filters/pumps ant everything. And they are cheeper than most pond set-ups and pretty easy to take down for the winter and stuff. Just a thought. :youtellme: Any insite to this as a possiablilty?

Lisa, about what size are you looking for??
A lot of people use the Intex pools from Walmart. But don't expect to take them down. They last a lot longer if you set them and leave them up. Folding them to put them away makes them split and crack.
Aquatic Eco has some metal tanks that come in sections that you can get liners for. They are a lot tougher and last a lot longer.
You might check your local Craig's List too for cattle troughs, tanks, etc.

Wow, the price is right!
I want one for me! not the fish, ME! LOL
I would search around and see if you can find anyone that's used one for fish. I can't imagine that there would be anything in the plastic that would hurt them, like a anti-bacterial or algacide stuff. That costs a lot more money to put in the plastic, so I don't think they would do that with these.
I say go for it. Put a kitchen scrubby thing over the intake for the pump so you don't end up with fish puree.
Oh and watch temp. Above ground will get a lot hotter, so put it in the shade.

Alot of koi people we know have used those for temporary homes for koi for when they have to shut down their ponds. Rarely does anyone use the filtration that comes with them as it is not sufficient for bio filtration.

I think it would be easy to use what comes with it, and bugger it up for biological filtration.
Looks like all you would need to do is plug a hose into the outlet side of the pump and have it go to a kitchen garbage can of bio-balls or something like that.

I had a bigger one that we used for the koi when cleaning out the ponds, when we tried to catch them to get them back into the pond it was hard, when you lower the water level the sides go down & the koi would hide under the sides. It made it difficult, I ended up trading it on craigs list for a 2000 gal tank.
If I did it again I would do the hardsides.
For goldies I just use those little blue kiddy pools. They give me more hatch our room to, I can just add an airstone for hatch out. With any of them make sure you rinse them out well before using for fish or they will kill the fish. They coat them with an chemical.

Also be careful if raising fry. The plasticizers will cause deformities.
