Just curious, How far do you travel for goldfish (show, pick up a fish, go to vet)?

I got to the goldfish breeders social in Cincinnati every year. That about 2,500 miles.
I hope to go to Shanghai or Bangkok to visit farms in the next year or two.
I haven't traveled since Rick quit importing goldfish. That was a 2 hour drive, and it was the joy of day.

How can I join the breeder social?

I went to Chicago Show which is around 1000 miles away. I wish I could go to Asia to study fish. Japan?

I'd love to go to Japan but don't have any contacts there yet...
Ed at Goldfish Utopia seems to have made contacts there as he has some sweet fish coming in.

Really? I'm not in touch with Ed as much. When are they coming in?

He told me he will go to Japan in Dec. In the mean time, I don't see him coming online anymore. Perhaps he is in Japan now.
I haven't travelled for fish. Drove 4 hours for a tank for them though. I am going to make a point to hit the Portland show in 2009. I wish I could go to a farm and hand pick, now how fun would that be?

I am from San Francisco, and a few years back I went to Ohio to visit Ken and pick a couple of fish! I was there anyway, but I still consider that the highlight of the trip.

I drove to MD for the MAKC show last year, but there wasn't too much goldfish action going on TBH. If we need to go to Guangzhou next October for trade shows you better believe I'm gonna schedule a stop to Tung Hoi.

Shannon, how many tanks did he have? I know I was in awe when I visited Rick.

It was alot, at least 50 or 60. Maybe more. There were some ryukins and ranchu that took my breath away. They look so massive in person. It was so cool.....he is super nice, too.

Recently I went to Paul's and pick up 3 ranchus. One way trip is taking around 7 hours door to door. I stayed at his place for 2 days and I got the fish I like + Thai food from Paul and his wife. Thanks guys.

Rick had more tanks. When I visited him, my head was like watching a tennis match going from one to the other. Finally, I got tired of doing that, so I would focus on one side of the aisle and then I would go back down that very same aisle and then check out the fish on the other side of that aisle. It was insane!
You guys are making me so jealous! Only reason why I hate living in Washington....

They should be coming in around the 3rd week in January, but it'll be touch and go since my wife and I are expecting a baby on Jan. 10th.
