Soooo I got a 100+ Gallon Fiberglass tub last night at my Aquarium Society Group for $3 !!! :yess: A Steal Right!?! Anyways....i was wondering if anyone had a recomndation on filtration for it ???Ive only had experiance in HOB filters (Marina-Penguin bio-wheel) The tube has a large drain in the bottom that i was considering closing up unless it would be usable in filtration...Ill post Pics a lil later today but any sugestions would be awesome! This aquarium society i joind is soo awesome, most of them are into a lot of other types of fish but really helpfull and their auctions are way cool. Just wish there was a goldfish group in my area. :/ ill just have to keep looking !!

It's a good deal for sure. I have two fiberglass tubs about 70 g each with bottom drain.

I have two different setup. The bottom one has babies fish. I use sponge filter with daily water change (100%). You can use sponge filter with weekly water change if your fish load is not a lot.
Next one has two big fish in it and using bakki shower type filter.

I would recommend a canister filter for less maintenance. Try Eheim, a trusted brand but costs $$$. If you're on a budget, try the SunSun canister filters (available on eBay). It is getting good reviews for being efficient as well as economical.
In the filter media, for extra clear water, I would recommend use of filter floss (cheaper alternative would be the polyester pillow stuffing from Walmart). And also other media you want like sponges, ceramic rings or bio balls.
You can also make your own, but the SunSun canister filters is pretty decent price that it beats making your own IMO and better than an hang on the back filter. Unless you have a bigger tub then yeah go and do a DIY filter.
Whatever you get, just remember to do research on the type of filter and the brand/make your are getting before buying it.

If it is outside, use an airstone only and do a weekly partion overflow, I have these for years this is what I do. Inddors a double stcked sponge filter is adequate

^Agreed. I'm doing the same, even with indoor setup. No problem at all.

...I've been doing WC more often than other people even with my outdoor setup. Whenever I feed bloodworms, 6-8 hours later the water would smell so bad that would prompt me to do partial WC to get rid of the smell. May be I have a very sensitive nose.:youtellme:
