Ive never waited Fred. I dont know why you would wait as it is a solvent weld that you are doing so once it sets it is done. That assumption is for pvc pipe.

Fred,

Read the instructions on the back. It should take up to 24 to 48 hrs.

No need to wait very long especially at fish tank presures.

I try to flush the new glue smell out. It's fairly toxic.

I just got done building a fish room, i think i gave them bout 45-hour before i filled them up...the next day i drained them and refilled, just incase anything absorbed into water, probly not needed, but makes me feel better:exact:

There is a great gPVC lue called gorilla glue. It's makered under the same brand as the gorilla polyurethane glue but it's for PVC and it is virtually odor free. It's a bit more expensive but worth it. I've found it at dripworks.com and if not there google it. I wish home depot would carry it.

I get exposed to a lot of glue and am trying to switch over totally.

Last week I had to switch out an in line chiller flow switch on a trout tank in a doctors office. There were a couple glue joints I had to make to install another union. I gave the fittings about 10 minutes and started things back up with no leaks.

I was a plumber for 10 years and now work at LOWES as the plumbing pro. As far as wait time it would really depend on the glue you are using and as mention probably a real good idea to flush everything pluming wise and such out real well. Now on to great glue and gluing, primer should be used and used properly, it softens the PVC and cleans it allowing superior bond. You always want to prim as you go not prim several peace then glue them up. prim the pipe then the hub of the fitting then apply glue to both as well then push together and give a quarter turn and hold for a few seconds so the joints do not push apart from the glue. My favorite glue is called HOT it is not sold at any hardware store I know of but all plumbing supply places will, this stuff hold like no other, once it is glued it is not coming apart. As a warning there is a reason it is called HOT and you will quickly learn if you get it on your skin lol. The primer is purple and very thin so it can make a mess if not careful and it stains about everything so keep this in mind. The best way to keep from making messes with both is to rub the applicator on the inside lip of the can to take out excess. Also tape the two cans together with them sitting on a flat surface keeps them together and the cans more stable so they a harder to accidentally knock over (been there dun that lol).

I hope this helps some people out. Running PVC is my favorite thing to do when plumbing. If anyone ever needs help with a plumbing issue I will do my best to help out as you all have helped me in just reading old post and newer ones and for this I would like to thank everyone.
