I preordered mine with UPS delivery. I like Apple products in general, but I can't imagine myself camping for anything...except may be for a nice ranchu, lol.

Wifi one. This device will be huge with the medical community and magazine/book/journal readers.

Great, so much for doctor-patient confidentiality!!!

Figure I hold out for a year or two, until they put a camera and USB on it lol
They DO seem cool...a bigger ipad touch is not a bad thing

So far so good. I think that tablet device is the future of personal computing. The device is not perfect but i think after a few revision most people will want one.

My favorite features so far are the screen which has very nice quality, battery life lasting literally 10 hours, and usability which is rather subjective and can't be gauged.

I've been using VNC/Remote Desktop to access computers at home and office. I've been stuffing it with my medical ebooks/journals. I've started to use it to do medical rounds and billings. My kids love reading animated books and playing games on it.

Web browsing experience is so good that I don't feel like using my laptop anymore, unless I need to go to flash-required sites. Book/magazine reading is also a pleasure.

Quirks include no flash support, limited multitasking (you can only run certain Apple apps simultaneously), no built-in video cam. However, I'm not a picky person and this device fits in nicely in my house/office. There are devices that can arguably do similar tasks and more, but only in geeks hand.

Here we are, almost thru Sept. now. How is everyone doing with their iPad??

Lari has had nothing but trouble with her laptop since she got it two years ago so we went shopping yesterday, Sept. 25th. Came home with an iPad!!!! That thing is soooooooooooo kewl, I want one too. Actually Apple has an all in one computer with 27" LED monitor that I want... it's only 1699$. THAT is what I want!
Anyway, iPad is amazing but we have alot to learn. Havent figured out how to transfer her bookmarks yet.. lol Macs are so much different than PCs but very intuitive and easy to learn.

i am a long-time apple user (mid 80s). the iphone was the reason i started carrying an phone again after almost a decade without. the iphone was revolutionary in that it was simple and made sence to my right brain—visual voicemail, pinching, real internet, touch screen, etc. brilliant. it also did more than any phone ever did in regards to what i needed. i know there are more powerful phones, but i can't understand the complexity of the interface and simple don't need to make spread sheets on my phone. the phone is about perfect for the way i use it.

mac is kind of the standard in the graphics world. the machine i work on every day are usually $3,500 out of the box. i would say that i am a pretty sophisticated mac user. i iPad is all but a useless toy for me. it does less than my phone and much less than my notebook. the true applications on it (iWork) are jokes that are useless by comparison. we peurchased on to send a presentation on to a client and in the end discovered KeyNote on the iPad could do little more than acrobat but with twice the complexity—all but total bust. there is no DVD drive making it worthless for gaming and watching media unless you buy it from iTunes—humm is that why there is not DVD drive Mr. Jobs? so what's left? a fraction of youtube, the app store apps and slow internet. for me there is no problem or need that iPad addresses. it is far from a personal computing device and what erks me is it should not be so far from a usable computer. it needs a DVD drive, it needs USB ports. it should be an alternative to the notebook computer, then i would be interested. apple has the capability to make a touch computer but decided not to and gave us a color Kindle.

i can see the use it would have to the MDs like Suphi, but it is a pale comparison to what it could be if they just made it a full computer instead of a 10% computer with 10% applications.

HP and other companies are going to kick apples but with truly useful tablet computing devices—this from an applephile. i am very disappointed not because it is not cool, but because they stopped way short of what could be and for no reason other than to promote the app store and iTunes in my opinion.

we will have fully capable tablet computers soon, but i don't think it will be apple that does it because they obviously have made the decision not to already. seriously, put a freaking DVD drive on it and use the mac OS not the iPhone OS.

end rant.

(i still want one, but have no need for one)

exactly my point. makes no sense for my needs which is what pisses me off because it is sooooo cool!

they could make a 17" tablet computer, but made a web browsing device instead.

i have no doubt the future of computing is a tablet you cary with you and blutooth at work to a larger monitor and keyboard, then carry with you so you can work/play on the train at home you stream media to better speakers or your TV, then take it to bed for some posting on GFK before sleep. factor in cloud computing and it is just the input/hub for your digital life. it upsets me that all these technologies are there, but apple has not taken the steps to combine them. i believe it is "planned obsolescence" and fear of undercutting their notebook market and itunes sales that have kept the iPad a reader and not a computer. so i have a tower, and notebook, iPhone and ipod because they won't put them together in one spot. who knows what the reason for apple TV is?

Ipad is not a bad product by a long shot, just not as powerful/useful as it could be based on current technology. touch screen tablet computers have been around for at least 5 years—they are not even a new idea. why did Apple stop short? if it is only so they can sell you an upgrade every year as long as possible... that's cruel!

being perfectly honest, if money was no object every member of my family would have one. it is a great reader.

Check this link. Mossberg sums it up pretty well. For average consumers, the iPad is a great match...and it's going to get better with future revisions. I'm getting a 2nd one whenever they announce a newer model with camera. There're all kinds of apps to keep every family member entertained.

Most of my posts here are done on iPad btw. Heck, I'm even thinking about making a specific goldfish app (say, goldfish guide) for iOS devices...but I can prob make more money doing a medical one.

Thanx for the link Suphi.... I spent about a half hour looking at all the accessories available for the iPad... lol. So far Lari loves hers. She is thinking of using that instead of her laptop for everything she does. She can email herself anything that needs printing and do it on my computer (which Im seriously thinking of changing to an iMac). Less convenient printing that way but just how much printing does she do,,, very little. Only thing Im concerned about is how fast this tech is changing,,, buy today, obsolete tommorrow!

Bruce, printing function is coming in the next software update in Nov. What you said is true, the moment you buy a gadget these days it usually becomes obsolete soon after. But my goal is to make a full use of what I currently have, instead of having the latest and the greatest which isn't always possible.

I think 10 years from now computer platform will be much different from today, we'll all look back and say yuck how did I put up with those clunky things.

Suphi.... I hopewe can upgrade to the printer function. I'm assuming that will allow the ipad to print directly to a printer on the network. That would be convenient. I dont think it will take 10 years to get to where you say... LOL We're getting close.
