i don't know about what you people will think of this, but here are my criteria for the ideal ranchu
half-circle type back with not quite so sharp of a tail tuck
top lobes of tail basically vertical, lower lobes wing out to sides
no headgrowth covering eyes
cute puffy fish cheeks that puff out to the sides, not in front of the mouth
not so much wen on top of head, just enough to create smooth line with back
basically, a lot like the little ranchu picture on the goldfish keepers logo!

i would like to hear what true ranchu people think is best and what you would think of a fish with my criteria

The fish in the logo above is typical of a calico ranchu, which is far from an ideal SVR in my opinion. Calicos typically have sharp bend in the middle of the back instead of near the tail, giving out broken back appearance. They also have very large tail and not so good wen.

My ideal SVR would be in the post below. It's hard to describe it perfectly but a picture is worth a thousand words.

And this is my ideal TVR. This fish won All Japan Ranchu West Ozeki in '06.

Beautiful fish Suphi........

Despite the ARS being a "TOP VIEW" club, the ideal ranchu should look good from all views. While evaluation starts from the top, the back curve and underside are evaluated as well. Why start from the top? because if the ranchu can't swim right, there is no use going further. Plus the tail is best judged from the top as well. As far as your curve question, I find the strongest peduncles seem to come from fish with gradual back curves with a sharp downward tuck at the tail peduncle base... JMO.
