Hello, for the last couple of days I saw one of my ranchus stressed. Other fish in the same pond were fine. I checked the parameters and the water was fine. She eats and swimms when i stear at her. But after a while she stays in the bottom with clamped fins. I decided to check her out and this is what i found...

It seems like it's blood, but when I cleaned it with a Q-tip it didn't smear. I treated it with melafix. But I don't know if this will be effective or not, as it seems as the blood is under the skin. Can anyone help me, please...

that's probably from sitting on the bottom. I would put in QT+3% salt, raise temperature and observe. may be a sinker

What do you mean by "may be a sinker" ?

A "sinker" is a fish that has great difficulty getting off the bottom usually due to swim bladder issues.
You can also dab some neosporin on the area with a Qtip, in addition to thomasn's recommendations.

Get a package of Tricide Neo. Only mix part of it and put it in a spray bottle, store in frig. Clean the area with HP or Iodine the first time. Spray it once a day and continue til it clears up. Tricide Neo is also good for and cuts and abrasions, and ulcers. Its our #1 go to med for this type of thing.

Seems to me that is a type of Aeromonas that shows up in the spring, I would isolate and treat with Oxilininc Acid... Watch the other fish for red patches, have you changed water in your pond lately?

Yes, that's it.
Just follow the directions on the label.

This almost looks like internal bacterial infection. I would probably try a medicated fish food and get the salt levels up a bit.
Hope he gets better.

While I was at work today, I had my wife keep on eye on the ranchu. She said it was swimming around every time she checked on her. Good news to my ears. Well when I got home I checked her out and she was sitting at the bottom again :(. So I decided to put her in my qt tank. When I took her out I checked the infected spot and this is how it looks:

:yess: it's almost gone, hope she heals fine though. This one is one of my favorites...

Early stage of an ulcer probably from bacterial infection, oxolinic acid is the best option.

that little red mark reminds me of what happened to Marble....not good
if none of the treatments here work, you could see if there's an exotic animal hospital or a student small animal vet clinic near you, yes you actually can take a fish to the vet, it's just that people never do that so the only real advantage the vets have is better and more varied medicines
good luck

Just after two weeks in my quarantine the fish healed nicelly, so I decided to put it back in the pond... I have been so busy i just got a chance to enjoy my fish yesterday and saw her sitting in the bottom AGAIN, so I picked her up and checked her and she has a similar red mark in a different are... This time i have been treating with oxolinic acid in the pond. I been treating the whole pond for the red spots in the wen... Its been 5 days of 100% water change daily and treatment with oxolinic acid... The red spots are gone now im just waiting for this fish to heal...
