I'll be getting 90 gallon tank soon and are debating what type of filtration was be ideal. Thinking of going with two aquaclear 110 with a hydro-sponge V, wet dry with overflow to a diy sump or fx5 or rena xp canister? For biomedia currently using biomax will be moving over to seachem matrix.

I know this sounds old school, but I would put an under gravel in also.

Torch.... we have a 110 with a pair of AC110's on it. Works very well but we also have a magnum 350 to help. Magnum probably isnt needed but we use it for a bottom drain and it picks up the big crud. The AC's do a real good job. We have them running on several tanks.

BruceP, I like the AC110, but it can get noisy sometimes due to vibrations of the tubing and filter top cover. When this happens I have to adjust the tubing or cover. Other than that I think its good. I had Magnum before it its great for mechnical filtration or clearing up debris, much better than AC110.

It doesn't happen to me at all. I have a lot of ACQ 70, 110 and never get any noise. You should check your setup.

Its funny how your approach changes over time..... Now, I just do sponges and heavy water changing....... And my fish are as healthy as they have ever been.

I used to use the Marineland but have switched to the Imagine Bio filters. They have a skimmer that is easy to adjust and it seems the impellers last longer than the marinelands.

Here is a link to one of them that I offer:

I run these on my tanks that have too many fish and they really seem to work Great. I also keep an extra one that I move around to whichever tank needs some extra filtering.
