Hi All! I have 29 years in with Verizon and will be eligible to retire eventually. My husband and I have agreed on a retirement project of an indoor goldfish pond (in our kitchen) for pearlscales. The pond will come when I am retired. In the meantime, I almost have all the equipment to start a 40 gallon breeder tank as an initiator to this hobby. Probably next month I'll be able to start up the little tank and chart the cycling, get used to water testing, get used to the plants in the tank, figure my way into this hobby. I basically fell in love with the adorable pearlscales from Ipoh, Malaysia from computer research---they are sooooo cute with the tiny pointy heads and double wide pearlscaled bodies!!! Hit a snag recently when I tried to find a wholesaler who imports from Malysia to the US already. Ah well, more research!! Well that ought to do it for an introduction!! Thanks for listening!! Lisa
Lisa,
Welcome to Goldfish Keepers! I bet you are counting the days for retirement. :yess:

Welcome to Goldfish Keepers. I have (secretly) always adored pearlscales. I wonder if any serious hobbysits are raising them? Veil Gal :gogirl:

Pearlscale develop much of their length first and then develop their girth. The ones that are golf ball-size and very round will not grow much larger. These little runts are cute as heck, but genetically weak, do not live very long and are prone to SBD. The stronger ones will grow to baseball, almost softball size and are fairly large before they get round.
Many of the goldfish coming into the US now are from Malaysia. However, they are brokered through wholesalers in Singapore so the US dealers may assume they were also raised in Singapore.
