Anyone using LED lightings or strips on their tanks? No moonlights but actually strip LED that is popular now on reef tanks. I want to go green and also save energy, since Ranchu tanks usually are plantless. I do want to bring out the colors.

I have an aquarium which has LED lights on it since 4 months now. Is screw in bulbs replacing orginal bulbs. Tried both colours warm and now cool white.

Which LED unit do you get and what type of tempatures. 8000k, 10,000k, blue or..etc.

MY LED is packaged in a regular screw type light bulb, there are about 40+ Leds in each bulb assembly. I have both the warm and cool white. cool white seems to work better. I do not know what temps they are. But only consume lesss than 2 watt. It is not a strip but a complete unit which replaces the old bulb. made by Osram called GE I think in US.
now the LED are becoming popular we will find them in many packages even for low volts automotive which could be used in acquarium too I think.

I've been looking on ebay at the LED lights available. Like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/48-LED-Strip-Rope-Car-Aquarium-Flexible-Light-White-12V_W0QQitemZ290408707769QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_Def aultDomain_0?hash=item439db536b9 for example. This one is 48cm (Isnt that about 2 feet?). Its 12volt so all you would need is a 12v converter to hook them to. I even have a coupla old 48" aquarium lights I could mount four of them in. What do you think?

I'm looking at the Stunner LED strips, they seems to be decent pricing and lighting are 8000k with some 454 blues mix in there.

I like your idea. Don't forget to record the process..

I am awaiting the arrival on my 90g tank, probably get it in April, then I will look into trying the Stunner LED Strip to see how it fits. I know Ranchu don't need that much lighting, but with LED available, its brighter and last longer.

Torch,,, those Stunner lights are nice, only I was thinking more of a DIY project. Commercially made is nice when you only need one or two.

Mikroll.... interesting link.

I'm not convinced that certain colors of lights ACTUALLY improve the color of the fish or just make the fish LOOK better when viewed under those light conditions and will look different under different lighting. Good old sunshine is the best to actually improve the coloration of the fish. That's why we try to get our show fish outside as soon as it's warm enough to not kill them. Louisville is only 3 months away,,,,, right Fred?

Bruce: are you going to Louisville?

Between T5H0 and LED, which one is better?

Fred...... I know NOTHING about lighting :)

Of course we are going to Louisville. IF we were to go to only one show a year it would be Louisville. You will love it. It's held on at a private estate and everyone is so friendly, more like a family get-together than a show. We belong to the Louisville club to show our support of their show. EVERYONE ought to go to that show.. lol
Are you still planning to chair that show? Who i judging?

I am not sure yet. I am planning to go UK show and Jinchu Kai show. As a result, I have to minimize domestic trip. (Still I have to go SF by the end of this month :( )
