I could not wait for spring

I could not wait for spring so I took my shohin maple bonsai in to cheer me up. This picture was taken on feb.8 , now it is almost full with leaves I will take an update picture this week.

Any tips on pruning to get a tree into that shape? Do you start by pinching the central leader?

Maples I only use shears never pinch much, I only pinch pines and junipers.
As the summer go but I will shape as I feel it is needed.
This tree has pretty much the shape I want but the top center needs to get a little more fuller.
I looking for a broom affect.
Half way trough early summer I will defoliate this tree then I will get another set of leaves but much smaller in size.

BTW...I love those plants. A friend of mine sent me one as a gift, and I killed it! I was very upset about it.
