Hi,

Few of my fish has some white stuff on the wen. some of the white stuff like grain of salt and some of them kind of irregular shape hanging on the wen. I did water change, add salt, and raise temperature to 80C. Some of the white stuff of come off, but still have some left. What is it and how to treat.
Below is the three samples that I manage to collect on the white stuff. Three samples with zoom in picture. Microscope pictures.

Thanks,
Opera

Forgot to mention. When I looked it under microscope on the white stuff. I did not see anything moving. so I just took few pictures.

I don't know what it is called but it isnt too uncommon to get that when the wen is growing.

What magnification is this, especially the last pic? 40x?

How about the pic of the fish itself.

The problem with microscope is that unless you really know what you're doing or what you're specifically looking for it's going to be very hard to diagnose without using special stains.

Thanks,

I will take the picture of the fish and I will include ruler on the picture. This is the first time that I try to look under microscope, so I do not know what I supposed to look at.

The first photo is just some decaying mucus.

The second photo looks like a piece of lint.

The third photo appears to be an ich trophont. If so, you should be able to see the tomonts swarming inside.

The fourth photo could be a trophont which bust when the cover slip was set in place.

The fifth photo looks like the slide is drying out, but is not a concern.

When someone says "grain of salt" I think ich. Don't bother with more prazi and bring the salt up to at least 0.3% (about one tablespoon per gallon). It is a good sign if it is not worse the next day. If it gets any worse then use one of the ich medications.

I believe Steve may be right. The last slide is the money shot that shows numerous microorganisms, I just can't tell for sure if that's really ich. But ich has such distinctive appearance on the fish that you don't really need to scrape and scope to diagnose. If you post the pic of your fish it'll be very helpful.

Actually, if you could do another scrape and go higher mag (100x), look for horseshoe shaped nucleus inside those cells. If you see this then it's most likely ich. You might need to use oil emulsion on slide cover at the very high mag to avoid damage to the lens. This would be educational for everybody here including myself, since I don't have much experience with ich trophont under the scope.

Thanks Steve and Suphi,

On image3, size of the trophot is 1.2mm and size of the horse shoe is 0.5mm.

Steve,
Right now my 150G stock tank has prazi pro+salt (1tbs/5G). Is it safe to treat the whole tank by adding more salt, to add up 1 table spoon per gallon? Do I need to remove the filter media and stop the UV? How long before I change the water? Can I still feed the fish? Do I need to raise the temperature to 80C?

This is the picture, one of my fish, white stuff on the left side of the fish wen.

To get rid of the ich, you will probably need to increase the salt to one tablespoon per gallon (actual volume, not rated capacity). Increasing the temperature will speed up the process. The filter and UV will be OK, but remove plants if you have any. If you do water changes, add salt to the replacement water. Feed sparingly.

The pic is too blurry to tell, sorry. Go with Steve's recommendation for ich treatment. I'd also vacuume the tank floor regularly to get rid of the fallen cysts.
