I have the following:

2 sets of 3ft tank
3 sets of 2ft tank
1 odd shape fibreglass tub that holds about 100 lit of water.

I also have the following:

2 orandas above 20 cm
2 orandas above 16 cm
2 orandas above 14 cm
4 orandas above 10 cm
6 orandas above 8 cm
3 ranchus above 10 cm
2 telescope eyes above 8 cm
2 ryukins above 12 cm
3 ryukins above 8 cm
3 crown pearscale above 8 cm
1 red-capped telescope-eye oranda
20 short tail pearlscales (tikus)
This brings the total to 50 reasonably big goldfish plus about 2,000 fries at one week old.

As usual, I went with two of my buddies (kakis) to hunt for fish yesterday. I found for myself a pair of red-capped orandas and 4 algae-eaters for my sump containers.

One of my buddies bought 5 tikus. At the end of our trip, I gave the 2 orandas to my other buddy, because I realized that I have too many fish in my limited facilities. I wonder where I am going to keep the fries when they grow up.

Do you agree that I have too many fish? Do you have the same problem of self-control when it comes to buying goldfish?

No, but you don't have enough tanks and tubs :backingout:

I think it is fair to say that most members on this site are in a similar frame of mind! I am in a constant struggle not to succumb to tempation every time I am in the vicinity of the fish store.

You and your bed will move out of the bedroom and then with that free space you will install a big plastic kiddy pool and raise all the fry.

I am agreeing with Guenther :exact:, not too many fish, just too few fish houses.:yess:

An old Steve Martin movie shows the horror of "cat juggling", but I've been fish juggling. 5 nice fish are in a cooler with a heater on the deck. At 60 degrees on their way to 50F and then the pond. Instead of leaving their 55 gallon tank empty for fish I expect in a couple weeks, I split one of my fry tanks. I say cull faster. I've culled a large majority of my ranchu fry with an airline tube siphon. When they get too big for the adult fish to eat they look like goldfish and I feel guilty killing so many. With fancy varieties I can almost cull fast enough to maintain the same brine shrimp demand (after reaching peak at about 3 wks).
I need to go clean the new tanks I brought home from David's this week (along with some fish). Admitting we have a problem is the first step. I think the second step may be improving our filtration??

I feel ya buddy! I want more fish but 1 do not have enough space (I'm going to get a 50 gallon rubbermaid tub tomorrow) 2 don't have the large funds I want to buy high dollar fish 3 lack room at my house (there's a little room in the toy room and I could squeeze a tub in the hall bathroom, everyone showers in my bathroom, my hubby would be pissed if I put a noisy tank in my room again) 4 cannot find any nice fish here in the Tri Cities! So I think its a universal problem for all of us!

Hi Lim - could you post your first name, it makes for friendlier correspondence.
Yes, you are grossly over-stocked, at least three or four times over, but you know that already! Its clearly a testament to your excellent goldfish keeping skills that they are all alive and well. I think you've reached the stage where you have to decide whether you want to be a collector/keeper or a breeder. I hope you choose to become a breeder and fill your tanks (you'll still need more and larger ones, that goes without saying!) with your own bred Orandas like those in the photos you posted. I always advise potential breeders to concentrate on one or possibly two varieties but then, perhaps like most people, with me it's "do as I say" and not "do as I do". I am one of the world's worse, actively (trying) to breed and improve show lines of Ranchu, Tosakin, Jikin, metallic and calico Veiltails, metallic and calico Orandas, Bristol Shubunkins, plus experimental colour work and I'm trying to develop my own single tailed variety. I know that I MUST cut down on the number of varieties I keep but it's difficult - lucky I'm retired I guess!!!!!!
