i guess we could use one of these threads for those that are interested in getting their hands on some good japaneses products or merely for discussion. but here is something i would like to find and might be of some interest to ranchu breeders out there that are trying to preserve japanese tradition.

I have them......... There is a koi guy that sells japanese style nets of all sizes at the shows.... Paul and Fred know the info. I love the small nickel size ones for culling.....

Yeah, I have a few of them too. It's the best for goldfish I would say.

This is the web site for all Japanese nets
His name is Shin .
He sets up a booth at most of the east coast koi shows.

Also if you get nets from any other source make sure they are cotton
some of the other nets man made like nylon can cut young fry.

Fully agree with you. Shallow nets are very important in goldfish keeping so that you do not damage their fins while catching them.
I was once being told off by one of the disciple of a very famous ranchu breeder for using net to catch my ranchu. They recommend using your hand.
It is almost impossible to try and catch a giant oranda with your bare hands.

advantage of pearlscales: they're easy to catch cause they're slow and round:)
i once saw a video of someone trying to use one of those nets with baby pearlscales, the poor little things just slid/rolled right off!!!!!!!!!
