Hi All,
As you know, I am getting a tub from Paul (110x90x25cm one). The measurement converts to (43" x 35" x 10" estimate) (68G tub). I want to have a good stand that have some space underneath for storage.
-Should I build a DIY stand?
-or buy two stands for 40g breeder tank putting next to each other. And A layer of ply wood will go between tub and stands
My co-worker is suggesting to use angle iron with some bolt and nut(I don't know how to weld). Is it a good idea?
Here is the pic of tub.

*PS this tub will reside in the living room; I don't want to make it too ugly.
Thank you.

Fred......... Although these tanks are made of fglass and should be fairly strong they probably need to be supported BOTH on the bottom AND the rim to keep their shape. Also, if you framed it so that the frame is up under the top rim you could then cover the exterior with panelling, bead board, etc. with doors on one side to make it look nice. I'm not sure 40 breeder stands will give you that. Of course I could be completely wrong... :youtellme:

Outdoor or Indoor? Mine is going outdoor and I'll be using bricks in all corners. I'm not sure what would look good indoor but you can ask Paul since he's doing his fish room with a bunch of these tubs.

I guess we only need stand like typical aquarium. We don't need to have rim to keep the shape.

It will be in my living room. Paul was suggesting me to do some wood work which I am not very good at. :(

If I put two 40g breeder size stand next to each other it will give me (36" x 36") surface area.

How about pre-cut acrylic sheets and make DIY stand out of that. All you gotta do is glue them together. I don't know about cost and wood is probably cheaper, but how are you planning to do WC?

suphi,
I am not sure what kind of acrylic sheet do I need for the stand. I have never seen anybody doing this for 300lb tub.
For wc, I will use the bottom drain.

Then the two breeder stands would work,,,,,,,, but they can't be right next to each other because of the center sump/drain. If it is less than 7" in diameter you could place the stands 7" apart, get the clearance for the sump, and still have them under the tank. 36" + 7" would be 43" and that is what you said the tank was.

Fred, my 40G shallow tank that houses 2 TVRs has acrylic stand that's continuous with the tank itself (which is also acrylic). It will support the weight if thick enough, but I don't know where you can get the material to do this.

Bruce,
I am thinking the same thing. let me check the price of 40 G breeder stand.

I am afraid that acrylic is expensive, especially the think one. Plus I don't know how to glue it well to use as a stand. :youtellme: I am sure it will look better.

This will give you an idea of sizes available and prices. You could tie them together with a couple of cross braces.

Or you could do this. Whatever Paul is making for his tubs just have him make an extra one for you :)

Fred,
It is too late now. You should ask for a free stand when u placing your order!

I have 12 fiberglass tubs from the far east and I am getting 4 more from Paul. I strongly suggest a plywood support with 2"X6"'s on edge for the stand:exact:
