OK my goldfish guru's what exactly are the tri colored mettalics? Are they basically a metallic calico without the blue?I am trying to understand the genetics of them more than what I can visually see if that makes sense. I have three and what would you breed into them if all you have are females for the best results?

Or red and white metallics that have not completely lost their black pigment.... I would be wary there...

You should try using metallic green males. I don't think anyone knows the inheritance pattern for the tricolors.
I don't believe that they are calicos as every scale has iridescence/shininess.
If tricolor is dominant, then half of the progeny will be tri-color.
If the tricolor is simply a special slow case of demelanization, then using the metallic green/olive will still give you 50% tri-color.
It is possible that they are red/white or bronze/blue (before demelanization) with only one allele for demelanization. They may also have something else that makes them darker although this is also an unknown. There are mystery loci that control shades or intensities that we know nothing about.
Please post what happens if you try any breeding. I am curious as the fish are quite striking and pretty to my eyes.

I have tri-color Ryukin. Chinese stabilizes that color 2 years ago because I started seeing this color around that. I am not talking about unstable tri colors which eventually turned into red and white. The colors stay like that and they look like matted. Yes they do have reflective scales. As soon as I see the first one I bought it.
Very pretty.
More and more of these colors are coming out Tommy has many when I visited him 3 to 4 weeks ago.

A tri-color metallic is different from a sakura with some black in it. Sakura is nacreous scale and the colors are as stable as a calico.
