I have a 2 year old red/white male Oranda who has had small whitish to pinkish circular raised patches/bumps come up on the front edge of each lower caudal fin. On one side they are more on the fin, on the other side they seem to be more on the ray in that area.

I am attaching a picture with the area and bumps circled.
He is approx 9" long ( with fins) and housed in a 150 g. stock tank with 5 other similar sized TVR and Oranda.

My parameters stay good 0 ammonia/0 nitrites/ 5-10 nitrates (5 in tap water right now), with big water change weekly. It's fully cycled with pond filter ( it's been set up since July). Average temps are 69-72 (with 2, 250watt Marineland Stealth heaters, it's on my back deck).
None of the others ( 4 TVR and 1 other Oranda) have this. I felt the bumps and they are raised but did not move or change when I brushed my finger across them.
I believe they have increased in number in the last few weeks.

Any ideas on what they could be? treatment?
Thanks for your help, I've had this fish since he was tiny and otherwise, he's always been very healthy.

Add fin rot medication. This will slowing eat up the tail fin. My Bristols had this lately and their tails are now ruined but at least, it looks now that they are cured.

Thank you, Gerard!!
I really like this guy and was hoping someone here had seen something like this. I've never treated for fin rot but will get online and see what I can look for at my local Petsmart, or order fairly quickly.

Could be carp pox? The other fish not being visibly affected would support this. Some individuals develop this almost spontaneously and never get rid of it, essentially harmless. Heat and salt can diminish it somewhat, but once a fish has the tendency...

If it doesn't go away after the fin rot meds, then it's most likely these benign cysts. I've had a few fish with them.

Myxobolus diversus. Throw it away.

Yers, that's myxobolus. Eventually the cysts will break open, the myxos will leave the white pimples and invade fish again. The wounds in the tail will then become red, infected, and tailrot will follow.
Seen that all too often.

Thank you guys, for responding.
I went back and read a couple of other threads about this with the myxos white pimples, spots, etc.. Major bummer.

Hindsight is 20.20 but in retrospect, this is not brand new, I'm thinking.
I first noticed a couple of white bumps on cheeks of 2 of the TVR in quarantine this summer but they were so minimal and fish otherwise healthy, I dismissed it. Don't know if that was these Myxobolus nodules or not but they did leave a pink spot ( fish had white on heads) when the white bump disappeared. Who knows.

I've been periodically seeing those single white bumps that disappear and leave a pink area here and there but again, dismissed it as they always went away and the fish seemed otherwise healthy, as they do now. This fish is the only one with it in the tail so far, others have just been around the head area. Feel like major dummy for not catching it sooner.

Thanks again, for the help.

Marlin....... Ive seen people ask about this problem for years and I don't recall anyone ever stating unequivically that they 'cured' it. Koi also get this 'virus'. We have a beautiful longfin asagi that got a cluster of these bumps on one of its pecs about a year ago. It was a bummer as we feel this fish could turn into a showable fish. Just because I didnt know what else to do, I took a scalpel and shaved the bumps off. It's been about a year now and they havent returned. Will they? Most likely,,, eventually.

If you could shave it off then it's carp pox and a virus. Myxobolus nodules are embedded in the fin and is sporozoan.

I'm pretty certain these are imbedded and full thickness but I'm going to check further this afternoon.
In the TVR, the symptoms, if it's all myxobolus, have always been white pimples, usually in the head are and just 1-2 at a time, leaving a pink-red spot on the white areas when the pimple went away and then nothing for a while, never on the fins. I've seen those since they were in QT this summer. They were just very small,
When the Orandas started getting the white pimples/bumps here and there in the head/wen area, a couple of times theirs would turn into red sores when the white bump disappeared. I thought it was aeromonas and treated it as such it just didn't make sense to me when it kept coming back when I'm so careful about water quality, but then I am a novice at all this.
I'm guessing, from what I'm reading and the input that I've gotten, that this is all related and not curable.
Thanks for all the input, it is much appreciated.
