Why are my fish spawning?

I live in Ohio. It is winter temp around 22F. The heater in tank has been the same. No changes. (except one of my big boys died) and now they are spawning!? Is this normal in winter? Is this bad for spring spawns? Should I lower temp? Tank temp has been 73- ish. What other factors are involved? Is it true there are lunar influences??

Some of my gf can be triggered to spawn only by a change of temperature from 50F to 68F. That's how I got a spawn of Bristols this year, and last year a spawn of BEPs. I'm tempted to do that again this year but my set-up is not ready to accomodate fry yet.

I have only one instance where my gf spawned on a full moon. Maybe a coincidence, maybe not?
