My awesome big boy blue oranda is sick. Everyone else in tank is great! Water fine. He HAD a bacteria funk on his tail and wen just a bit. Cleared up with medicated food. Now out of blue 2 days later he is floating near surface and breathing abnormally. He may or may not have some mucus on his wen. But he looks like he has been sitting in the bubbler and floating in output stream like he cant get oxygen! Also he stopped eating mostly and his tail is loosing coloration? around the rim? If anyone has a tip please let me know. thanks I am pulling him and putting some salt and or methalene blue. It has to be bacterial right? If it was a toxin everyone would be showing signs?:youtellme:

Possibly gill problem. Common culprit is fluke plus/minus secondary bacterial infection. This time of the year fish can get sick easily due to drastic temp change so fish with chronic disease will show more signs of serious illness because their immune system is down (not just fish, people also get sick easily). If you're overcrowding or have less than ideal water quality your fish can get into trouble.

My favorite cocktail for this is prazi for flukes + oxolinic acid for gram negative bacteria, I treat for both at the same time. Sick fish should be isolated tho, need extra oxygen maybe two airstones in hospital tank and frequent water change. I'd probably treat the other fish for flukes but not for bacteria if they're behaving normally.

He is in a tub. Had him in methaline blue and salt. Now he is just in salt. He is getting slimy and fins pale in a strange way. His eyes are dialated. He has no muscle and no swimming motion. But he is not floating upside down. I dont know what is wrong? I dont know how he would of gotten flukes? It is so strange. And horrible. I dont know when it is time to euthanize? Trying to get pics. thank you. Trying to work this out. I think meth blue kills alot of stuff. I have no water soluble prazi on hand. only feed antiparasite med.

his eyes are dialated and his tail is suddenly discoloring but has a dark edge before the discolor? Is he just suffocating?

Did you buy this fish from somewhere or is he from your own spawn? IMO, fish need to be treated for flukes at least once a year, sometimes twice if in a pond enviroment outside. Also, when you said you fed medicated food, what kind did you use? Anti-parasite food is not the same as medicated anti-bacterial food. If this is a bacterial infection, then he needs anti-bacterial food, such as Metro-Meds. Is he still eating?

Thanks. he's dead. he was bought from a guy in ohio who had bought wholesale from CA. I think I got him in june? He was everyones favorite. Including mine. At least I got some offspring from him. He had the perfect wen and face. I guess I will move to R.I.P. section...again. BTW All my fish are cleaned with Prazi and the antibac food is Medi gold I think. He was from the same place Ken got his blues hes still selling. (of course I got their first)

Sorry about your fish. Consider stocking necessary meds that you might need so you can use them right away next time.
