Those are the Uno ranchu correct? My understanding is that this line puts less importance on tail/peduncle/body and more on hood.........

something about the texture of the headgrowth looks weird to me. It's excessive, and resembles pom pons instead of funtan

I don't like this kind of headgrowth. It makes me think of chinese ranchu. Maybe the way the pictures were taken does not show this fish at its best .

I don't think that is uno ranchu. Uno have a very intense deep red.

Youre right Steve, some one told me that they are YUME ranchu. However they also told me that this bloodline breaks the the standards with more developed headgrowth and weak tail shoulder. Instead of the most important aspect, balance: head/body/tail...

I wonder how longit would take to improve this breed by crossing it with one a specific line has a nice body and tail/ tail tube but lacks in head growth.

I think we should try to breed for the total package, though very difficult. Thats the challenge that vexes us.........

Thats what i meant Dan, but since the Yume ranchu has great headgroth. His role in the spawning would be to bless his offsping with thay type of headgroth and the other fish for the rest of the qualities, such as tail, body and caudal penduncle. End results being a balanced fish with the Yume head charateristics...
I think thats who it works, if not would some one care to give me a quick lesson...

My only concern is how "fixed" those traits are do to inbreeding. If you outcross to improve those weak traits, it may cost you the original traits you wanted to begin with. Years ago, there used to be a strain of red bettas(John Williams strain) that had the most awesome deep red color, but so so finnage. For years people tried to improve the finnage with either no results, or loss of the great color. The line was too "fixed" genetically..........
