Looks pretty good to me, I like the square-shaped wen and the funtan. True TVR would have longer body, I believe. How about some side-view shots?

Excellent side-view profile for Thai SVR, Fred. They all got nice smooth curvy back with angled tail. I also prefer this type of wen compared to the Chinese ranchu/lionchu, not too excessive. All of my current fish are Chinese, but I'm getting my Thai chus from Paul soon, can't wait to join the club.

All,

The stock is quality and you should be very happy with the stock. Perhaps we can get John Parker to share some lessons but the futan on the heads are adequate to very nice. Hard to comment without knowing the age. My guess is that these are Tosai not Nisai and therefore you have great fish on the front end.

The back ends are more difficult to get perfect fish. On picture two , te lower right ( red one), the fin rays pierce the bracelet and this is a flaw ( not a killer flaw), and that fish would be ranked thrid because of this. Next, when the fish are at rest, the shoulder ( or lead fin ray) should be about a 80 to 90 degree angle from the peduncle, from the pictures, I can not fairly criticse these beauties as you can't tell from the pics if the fish are moving or not when the picture was taken. Also, how do they swim? If they can swim easily in a straight line and then rest and oar without listing, bingo you are there. One great comment about these fish is that the peduncle seat to the fin rays is not pinched, a thick none narrowing peduncle is a great feature and difficult to find in top view Ranchu.

All in I like the Ranchu. I talked to Paul yesterday and I told him he needs to find out the lineage of the Thai fish, I believe he will find out that detail in the future. A Thai fish from the Kashino or Mita, or Oishi line is more valuable than a commercial grade fish, its' ike buying a fish with papers ( if you were buying a dog).

Thx for the effort GH

Hi Fred
I have no personal experience of fish with such upright tails. Concerned that as their bodies are short and deep that as you develop the heads they will become head standers.
Also their tails look joined as I cannot see any divisions or is this just the photos?
Also, 3rd photo - red fish with white areas on cheeks - head and tail do not appear to be in a straight line. Is this just the photo or does the head really look to the left?

Hi John and Gary,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. These fish are less than 3 months old. I will post a video from top view tonight.

I bought them as side view ranchus. I guess Thai breeders are trying to get buffalo head(square head) ranchu with side view appearance (according to Paul, it's called Japanese broodline.) When I selected those fish, I didn't pay attention from TVR point of view since my knowledge on TVR is almost zero. I am glad that I am learning now.

Thank you. :)

Sorry Fred. Not trying to hijack, but have one quick question as I am learning here. Gary, What exactly do you mean by "fin rays pierce the bracelet" ? Is the bracelet at the base of the tail ? or is it the end edge of the tail ? Tried to figure it out by looking at pictures.
Paul

Is it the area at the base of the tail that forms like a little "V" in the center ? Is that where the rays are piercing ?
Thanks in advance.

Looking at Pauls' messages today it seems he has been extremely busy hatching eggs it will be interesting to see if the off spring show their history...

Good night!

I thinking to get rid of those eggs. I believe that i'll be very busy this whole year! Import new fish, Goldfish show, building my fish warehouse/store front by myself and also my main work!!!.

So i am sure i wont have time for them this year! Too bad, i just paid for a can of Artimia eggs. Plus, seem that this fry could be interesting since they're start hatching in almost 4 days. Good timing!

I have no choice!! :((

Fred, if you could delete that topic i posted in Breeding section. Sorry man!! I thought i can give out a complete and intresting breeding project for you site! Maybe Gary could help you out! he's a pro!

To answer your question, the tail braclet is where the tail base connecting the fin to the tail shoulder..... It should be complete and not "broken" by the primary fin ray.
