here is a start kinda ripped off by the ranchu club but i am sure they dont mind :) I hope LOL

1. Promote the Veil breeds and finnage types.
2. Get members breeding lines of Veils, colors that are hard to achieve and passing those offspring to others
3. Promote the other Veil finnage varieties... Demikins,Oranda's and such

I would add under the science;
-"understanding of Veiltail genetics"

-importantance of outcrosses.

-fin ray counts, simple or complex and their importance

Gary could you send me or even write here about the ray count and its importance. I am interested to learn more.

At the Breeders Social, Dan Young gave a demo on fin ray counts, fin ray branching and finray thickness on Bristols. In Bettas they use this for an indication of tail strength and potentailly origin.

Seems to be cool in Bristols, for eliminating tail flop. I think it may be the only way to determine pure phillies from other stuff and most of all it could lead superior veiltails of types in the future:yess:

I think that the number one goal we need is this.......
To come together in the interest of the Veil Hobby as breeders,Show stock, and just lovers of the breed and finnage type. There is room for everyone in this group and that we need to educate each other in that.

Plus, IMHO, I still think that the first priority is to save the Philadelphia veiltails. Maybe you guys are better informed on their present status in the USA.:youtellme:

The Philadelphia veiltail was derived from fish sent from Japan, right? And then developed further by breeders in the US.

So, does anybody have fish that are directly descended from them?

I am not so sure that the goal should be to preserve a concept.

I can assure you that the veiltail stock still exists in China as one can see in the fish being put up for sale at regular intervals.

Saying that, I can also state that the "Philly veil" stock that Gary maintains (also Al Foster although I have not seen his fish) has different traits from the Chinese broadtails and veiltails. Gary's fish have a slimmer body, stiffer finnage and more pointed tips to their fins.

Looking at the UK fish, their finnage appears very delicate and filmy. I am unsure whether this is reality or simply a false impression from the video.
