I just got a panda in the mail. It had outrageous ammonia in the bag. It has one eye that will not dialate! i am hoping that is just the eye still adjusting, or it has gone batty or blind. It is about 4". Eating and fairly active. My concern is (right now) why is one side of its,.. well side' sticking out more than the other? It is by no means a "plump" fish either. And I think it is slightly floating on the thicker side. Is this probably a bacterial infection from ammonia and .25 nitrites? will try n get pics later. The ammonia in the bag was like 8! So far I salted her a little and gave antibiotics. thanks for any tips J I thought she would be healthy but should probably quarantine right)

Perhaps just a female

Feed her soft stuff like frozen brineshrimp and salt and change water daily

May I ask how long this fish was in the bag for that you know? How many days did it take for you to receive it? 8ppm of ammonia is very high and it sounds like to me that the shipper/breeder did not fast the fish before shipping or anything!

She is doing great. thanks for tips. She was in the bag for almost three days. The seller said she fasted her but I think she had to sneak something. She was in a "breathable" bag but it was not filled with water tight. ?? I am not sure they work if not tight!? Ammonia was crazy high but she seems great! Her crazy pupil was a pre-existing condition. Supossedly a white eye pigment!? Looks like a pin hole pupil. But she eats like a boss. Her lop side is being watched. She is kinda skinny so I am waiting to see what happens. Could she be full of eggs? Probably not she didn't have it before I was told.

Do you mean to say that she has a pearl in one eye? If so, then no, she is not blind. That is, I have a calico telescope with a pearl in her eye that is very white and she sees just fine.

I have had fish shipped to me all the way from Hawaii (2 days shipping) and the fish was excellent when I got him. I honestly do not think the shipper/breeder you used fasted the fish or used any dechlor in the bag to help bind the ammonia and detox it to help protect the fish.

Just out of curiosity, did the breeder tell you this fish had a pearl in one of its eyes before you bought it? A good breeder would have disclosed that information in the description of the fish.

I certainly hope your fish gets better.

sometimes exporters will leave the fish baged up for a day even before they're sent, doesnt sound nice but it happens...

4 months later~~~~my panda is rapidly turning white~~~~she /he just got moved to the Big tank and it is like a photograph fading out! I would guess her/him to be 1 1/2 yrs old. I was told pandas all fade out eventually. At least in orandas.

Sorry about the color fading.

All panda's black either changed to red, yellow or white.
