White spot growths vs. disease

I read that white spots on the hood of goldfish are considered normal healthy growth. So how can you tell if it's real growth or disease? :youtellme:

Is it limited just to the hood? Does the appearance look different like fuzzy fungi?

If the white spots are only on the head and nowhere else and there is only a couple of them chances are it is head growth.

There can be an accumulation of slime in the crevasses of the wen. It is as if it gets caught and cannot slough off. Looks like a bit of white snot. Usually harmless.
