Hello All,
I purchased some Hydro #5 sponge filters to use in a shallow 55gallon tub. This tub houses ranchu, and I keep the water level low, like 8"-10". With the lift tube attached, the sponge filter cannot operate properly because the bubbles do not reach the top of the tube. My question is whether the sponge filter will still function properly if I remove the lift tube altogether. I know that I could cut the lift tube, but that still wouldn't give it much height.
thanks,
Rob

I use the same hydros in my 50 gallon shallow tubs. I take the lift tube off on all of them. The tube really serves not important purpose.........

Rob,
I have a similiar observation as Dan's. I have tried putting a 90 on the top of the filter and then a draft tube, too much work.
Did you get the big or small bags of SAKI?

I got two small bags of Saki from That Fish Place. They were $13.00 each. I will have to keep an eye out for the big bags. I also bought decapsulated brine shrimp eggs (thanks Harris), and Deli Flake from Brine Shrimp Direct. I also found a site sells homemade pleco caves. See www.plecocaves.com. Pretty cool.
Cheers,

Not to get too far off topic, but if you are into pleco caves Rob, check this site out: http://www.rosenthalpottery.com/cavecatalog.html. I've got 3 caves from him so far and they are great. My bristlenose pleco and dojo loaches love them. Plus the gentleman who makes them is wonderful to deal with.

We have a potter in town that makes pleco caves in numerous sizes and shapes and the price starts at $3. Go to GCAS.org and ask for info on the selling page.
Abbey, I could have sent you plecs also,as I have about 12 LD's and LDA's and fair number of fry.
