I have a tank of fish that are on the bottom and a few on top. a couple have died. Few things I observed:
1. some red on body (small dot or patch)
2. gill covers are opening more tha usual, hard to breath?
3. No white slime or spots.
What I have done so far:
80% water change Day 1
Treated with PraziPro Day 1 (fish did not have the itch reaction when treating) 1 day only
Treated with Melafix (for anti bacterial) 2 days
Ich medicine (white bottle) with formalin? Spelling? 2 days
the two dead I found this morning.
Any ideas? I do not have a micrscope.
Thanks.

Gills problem for sure, although it's hard to guess whether it's from infection (parasite vs bacteria vs both) or just water quality issue leading to infection/hyperplasia. Try my formula (Prazi + Oxolinic acid), I haven't lost any fish with this combo so far. This covers flukes and most bacteria, and pretty safe to the fish (won't make things worse). If you worry about other parasites you can substitute Prazi with Coppersafe, just don't redose Coppersafe everyday because it can accumulate inside the organs. Oxolinic can be redosed daily after waterchange and is sensitive to sunlight (I bought from Gary's son's fishery but you can buy Crystal Clear Wipeout online.
Avoid formalin, malachite, methylene blue, potassium permanganate, or anything that will hurt the gills during this stage. I wouldn't use Melafix, no idea what it'll do to the inflamed gills. If the gills go, the fish will suffocate and die.
If you start losing fish, act fast, do not wait.

Thanks Suphi,
I think I will be out of time, but they look better now since I came home from work...I am draining now. I have gill guard fron GF connection. I think I will try that.
Thanks!

If not flukes, it almost sounds like Bacterial gill disease, I would continue the water changes, daily and Oxilinic acid is a good choice. Good Luck

Be careful with the formalin. It does work, but it is very toxic. It can kill a sick fish fast. Doc Johnson recommends only using it for 120 minutes then do a complete water change. Also be careful about combining multiple meds.
good luck,
Rob
