Because of the way we breed Ranchu we historically have the new year start October 1, otherwise inddor pre Christmas spawns are Nisai the following spring

We can do it it based on age:
under 12 months - tosai
12 to 24 months - Nisai
24 months and up - Oya

Not only for age, but size are also important.
If you put fish in competition, but they're young but real big.
This aging system may cause the problem.
This measurement should include the whole body and tails.
Junior/Small Tosai 8cm
Tosai 8-12cm
Nisai 12-15cm
Oya 15+cm

I briefly went through the draft last night, thought it was ok in general. However, it seems to imply that you have to be an AGA member in order to qualify for an ARS membership. Is that right?

No. But we do what to support the AGA, since it is currently active in having shows across the country......

Please get your imput in if you wish to do so. We want to put these bylaws in place soon, for a basis for club function.......

That is NOT what written in the bylaws, Dan. I'm a little confused on that one.

How would you like to see it worded?? This is a group activity..LOL
Dan
I have to think about it, but the way it's written now, implies that you MUST be in good standing with AGA to become a member of ARS. How many are members of AGA on this board?

I do encourage everyone to join the AGA(though I don't think it should be a requirement to be a member of ARS or anything like that). It's not perfect, but the AGA is trying to be progressive and keep things going over the last few years. Sponsoring shows with Koi shows was great idea, and their standards are big improvement over the old ones used here in the states. I do think we need to focus on more breeder participation in shows. It needs to get away from "buy the day of show from vendor and show" stuff. What skill is that? Also more emphsis on quality over size in judging. But that comes with better judge education........

Could a time of possession clause be added to the show requirements? You must have had the fish for 6 months or one year to show a fish. Or what about a bred by and bought by category?

I think the time of possession(min 3 to 6 months) would be a good way to go for us. I do know the AGA is playing with the idea of a breeders class for next season, I talked to Peter about it.......
Dan
I do encourage everyone to join the AGA(though I don't think it should be a requirement to be a member of ARS
Dan
I think it should be stated exactly like that in the bylaws. "We do encourage everyone to join, etc. Again, just my two cents!
bigbettadan
08-07-2009, 06:40 PM
I don't see why that can't be added....
Dan
Sweet! You don't want to discourage people from joining ARS, but instead give them the option if they choose to join ARA.

What exactly is ARS relationship to AGA? Isn't this club it's own thing, completely independent or are we part of AGA? It's one thing to do a joint events collaborating with AGA; it's another thing for bylaws requiring ARS to promote, support and distribute information on the AGA.

The koi people have been having the time of possession argument for decades. One camp says you should not be allowed to bring in a ringer for a show. The other camp says you want the best possible fish in the show because it is a learning experience for the viewing public. Since there is no way to enforce or monitor a time of possession clause, you may be better off without it. There should definitely be a breeders category and it should be given the prominence and esteem it deserves.
That part about being an AGA member is my fault. I put it in there. But, simply saying we support AGA is of very little value to anyone. In my opinion, if we really want to support them, then we should join. The dues are very reasonable. This will also make AGA a stakeholder in our success. They will be out there supporting and promoting ARS rather than viewing it as a competing organization.
I'm a simple scribe and will change the wording as directed.

Good thoughts Steve.......
On the possession thing, for our shows(ARS) I think intially we need just to get the most TVR shown as possible, regardless of ownership. And I only know of one TVR current importer currently anyway....
I do think the AGA is definately ready for a breeder division at their shows

Other than the AGA issue, is there any pressing issues on the bylaws before we accept them????

It looks like the bylaws are in place. We will put acting officers in place, and decide on dues. I would like to be able to focus on show planning at the upcoming breeders social.......
