We had choose the name for club last week. But it turns out that majority of us prefer names which are not in the list. We decided to give a chance to those new names by starting a new poll. Please vote a gain.

ARS is good. Can it be the American chapter of the Jin Chu Kai or is the name restricted?

Hi Everyone
Sorry to have been "missing" for months. Various medications tried to cure my computer's problems but it proved to be mission impossible and the computer was humanely destroyed (with a hammer and boy did that feel good!). Had a new computer made but didn't like its security system. Decided to change it myself and in the time it took me to disenable one and install another the computer became infected with a serious virus which helped itself to one of my credit cards! Still, all OK now so, for better or worse, I'm back!
Enjoyed reading these posts and guess chosen name is obvious really so it must be the right choice. Not sure what the main function of the club will be though. Presumably it will be "on-line" but if so why not simply use this site (with permission if required), saves the need for dues, etc.
As some of you know we formed a Ranchu Club here in the UK many years ago. We started as Jinchu Kai Yokohama English Chapter but are now fully established/recognised as Jinchu Kai UK with Jinchu Kai based in Yokohama remaining as our "parent" Kai. From reading the posts I am not sure how it will be possible for ARS to align itself with a Japanese Kai for, from what I understand from you guys, you have Ranchu from all over Asia. We are Jinchu Kai UK because ALL our Ranchu come direct from the main Jinchu Kai breeder/Sensei in Yokohama. Two of us buy and import the fish, breed them and sell/distribute the babies with Kai members having first choice of our surplus stock. We keep a very close watch on quality control and cull spawnings drastically to ensure that our lines continue to move forward. I have been invited to attend Jinchu Kai's annual competition 5 times (was honoured by being invited to judge (junior) once) and on each visit I have enjoyed a week or so's "Ranchu training". My "Ranchu Buddy" Andrew James and I have been invited to go to Yokohama again this year; one day being reserved for the Competition and six for more intensive Ranchu training. I guess we'll buy some more brood stock (bought as babies - Tosai) as we normally do!
It's going to be a busy Autumn as I have a "goldfishing" trip to the States from 4th to 13th September then it's off to Japan on 14th October, I can hardly wait!
Best advice I can give is don't spend too much time making rules and theorising. Get your hands wet and breed Ranchu. Only when you breed them will you move forward.
Looking forward to seeing some of you again in September and hopefully making/meeting some new friend too.
John
P.S. If you are not going to keep Ranchu and indeed keep them SERIOUSLY why join a club dedicated to them?

Welcome back. I wish we could do what you guys are doing in the UK, but we would need source fish. Its something I can talk to you about at the social in more detail. Oh, on the dues issue, one of our main goals is to put on an annual japanese style ranchu show in the US. So we would some starter funds....

Ok, now that I am awake I can answer a little better. Personally I would love to do something like you guys are doing with the Jinchu Kai, but like you said, it may not be practical. Plus, we have another more pressing goal we(the ARS) need to accomplish, that is popularizing and educating on the true ranchu(TVR) in the US. That means getting as many good fish here in the US in as many hands as possible for breeding. As much as I would like to see only Japanese bred fish being the norm, due to availablity and cost, Thai bred ranchu from Japanese lines may be one of our sources. In the end, we need good american bred stock to really cement the hobby here...

Hi Dan
I guess this is were I start to loose interest in a club... when it's mission is to spread the gospel. I'm more of the If you build it they will come mentality.
Like what Gary has done with the Social. No Rules and Regulations, just wet hands and good fish...
Still looking for that Miracle ticket to Cincinnati but it's not looking good.

I guess I have always been in the lets get it done camp. I don't think wanting to promote ranchus and get one show a year going is too much of a stretch. I am not much for tons of rules either. Its not like I don't think the status quo is good, but I would love to see the next step taken. Gary has done his part to keep the ranchu hobby alive in the states, now its our turn. I would not be doing this without Garys support.
I hope you can make it to the social, I bet this is one for the history books!

chiming in late, but does anyone have concern that ARS is similar to "arse". if you don't know that word, maybe a friend from the other side of the pond might grace us with a fine Oxford English definition. or you can just google it;)
How about American Ranchu Congress? this sets the ground for clubs/kai within the group.
just a thought—but maybe that thought is coming from my arse and it does not matter in the "end". that joke really stunk. ok i wil stop now.

I think, based on ranchu history and the fact is we later decided not to go the officer route..... that American Ranchu Kai would be my preferred choice.
