Hello everyone,
I know we have a lot of TVR lovers in this forum. Come on everybody, no matter you are breeders, vendors or keepers, PLEASE join the club, submit your suggestion.. >:D<

I am brand new to this with the 4 TVR that I got from Dan but definitely wanting to learn and this sounds like a great opportunity.

Perhaps you could have a thread here in this section just for a "show of hands" of who is interested in supporting/being involved in a TVR club?

I'm sure there are those who are interested in being involved but may not be replying because they don't have specific suggestions right now?

Just a thought..

The usual first step in creating a club is to develop a mission statement. The goals in the other thread are a mission statement of sorts. The next step is to develop by-laws which guide you in fulfilling that mission statement. Sounds like mum-bo-jumbo, but without these items there is no clear focus and without these items the group is guaranteed to break into chaos and disagreement later. The by-laws are a living document which can and should be modified by consensus opinion as the need arises.

Count me in.

I think the mission statement should be a broad statement. The name of the Kai should be something artistic, something that evokes a feeling or setting, something that honors the old ways...... a name that will really impress the Japanese when we ask a Kai in Japan to become our sister-kai.

Here's some brainstorming:
"Blossoming Western Ranchu Kai"
"Western Sunrise Ranchu Kai"
"Super Ranchu America Kai"
"Super Sky Ranchu Kai" (hahahaha! it rhymes!)

Everyone throw down your crazy name ideas, and we'll blend them together into something very unique and memorable.

'Sakura Nishiki' means there is a mixture of matt and metallic scales. It is the red pigment under the matt scales which gives the pinkish color reminiscent of cherry blossoms. There are now sakura TVR, sakura jikin, sakura nankin, etc. However, traditional TVR are only metallic scale and the presence of the sakura pattern indicates introduction of nacreous genes from other varieties. Sakura TVR are not real TVR.

I would really like to learn more about Jap. TVR, so please count me in!

As for the name, I was just wondering if maybe using a symbol (name) of something that the Japanese hold dear to them in the name would help? Again, not sure what that would be...just a suggestion.

I do not think it would be too difficult to find a sister club... irregardless of the name. The tricky part is finding a kai member who can and will do the translation.

I may be off base, but my understanding of a ranchu kai in Japan is that they are each formed around a particular breeder. The sensei teaches the members about ranchu and supplies young fish at a reasonable cost. When his members win in regional or national shows, the master looks good and the price of his stock increases.

But, there are kai or hozonkai (I'm not sure what the difference is between 'kai' and 'hozenkai') for all sorts of hobbies and the sensei/student relationship is not a requisite.

Since we are talking about including other Japanese varieties besides TVR, perhaps that should be reflected in the name.

I don't think Kingyo is a good word to name this club. Since I believe it's mean goldfish which it's sound awkward by saying "goldfish ranchu society of America". Plus, we have AGA doing all kind of goldfish. Also AGA is like a mother to our club. If we really want to be like a chain club of AGA, American Ranchu Association (ARA) is not a bad name!

To me, personally, ranchu society/club of America are the best description. We should stick with our own language for the name of the club. Also use language that we can use best!

Ranchu Club of America is nice, to the point, simple and WESTERN. That is what we are setting up - a unique club that is NOT Japanese.

It is not necessary to attempt to be that which we are not. We are not Japanese - we are WESTERN breeders, keepers and show people.

The fish may have Japanese bloodlines, but will be our fish - hardy and strong (I hope), yet as beautiful as the stock from which they decended.
