Hi All,

I just posted a few more pics of my 2009 hatches. Below is a pics of a cross of TVR to a Chinese Ranchu/Lionchu? I have a pics of the mother in my "Harris' fish" album. She does not look all that great in photos or still, but she really steals the show when moving around in the pond.

Steve @ Rain Garden has a spawn from her last year to a beautiful TVR I bought from him. They have more tvr type tails than mine. I do not know why he does not place them on his site as they are really nice fish. I think better than these.

I just did it for kicks since I liked the mother so well. I have more pics in the album "2009 hatches".

Anyone else do a TVR cross? How did they turn out? What type was more dominant?

Is a shukin a cross between a wakin and a shubunkin?:youtellme:

I believe an article I read some where said it was revitilized from and Oranda X Ranchu. I think Steve also posted a diagram from a book that may have also agreed with this idea.

This is the second variety that I have heard was lost due to war....Tosa and Shukin, but I am sure there are many others.

The pic in this post is not shukin though, it is a TVR cross.

As difficult as it is to get the peduncle/tail, I can't see a huge reason to do it unless you don't have a choice, or you are trying to make edos. Of course sometimes its fun just to try it....

yes, and I did not have a male for her. she is actually quite nice in a pond. I think it may be her color or movement...?

You will have to get some Edos from Gary. They have pretty decent tails.......

Nahhh....I am going to give up on the calico ranchus....I have breeders for next year, but am pretty sure I will move to calico shukin instead. My space is limited so something has to go.

Those fish are very nice!!! I was wondering, do you breed for pleasure or profit?

haha....I have not heard of any hobby people that do this for a profit, except for Steve. I am sure there are some out there, but I doubt only goldfish. I have not sold my fish until this year, but to local pet shops for supplies.

I think it is a dream for many as we love our fish soooo much. Maybe too much considering we look and stare at beautiful creatures that are pretty mindless. My wife asks me "why don't I look at me like that?"

When I heard that there are many, many people in Japan that have gone bankrupt in search of there dream owning a goldfish farm, so I forgot about it.

I love breeding my fish for fun. Happy breeding!...goldfish that is.

I can certanly understand where you are coming from, but in a way, I think it is sad, too. I mean, there are so many people on here who breed such beautiful fish. It would be nice if there was some way for you all to get a few of your "culls" out to people who may want them. I know that is not the same as breeding for profit, but at least you could make a little money for all your hard work and make someone else a very happy fish-owner!:exact:

Thanks Gary,

They looked pretty good as far as color. Many after you relied lost the blue and in some cases the black too. I was hoping to bring som to the BS but I did not think this group would be good for breeding. I am giving up on the calicoes (ranchu) now. I do not have the space for too many varieties and now I see what some of the old timers meant by breeding for color is difficult. I do wonder if the heat here has anything to do with it or if it is just a genetic roll of the dice.
